Caren Remillard
Caren Remillard was born in Atlanta, Georgia and received a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Emory University in 2011 and a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Georgia in 2014. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad at the University of Sydney in Australia and as a graduate student, she had the opportunity to study at the University of Georgia’s Costa Rica campus. Currently, she serves as Center Lead of the NASA DEVELOP National Program at the University of Georgia while pursuing a PhD in Geography. She also serves as Chair of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Student Advisory Council. Caren’s graduate research is focused on integrating satellite data, GIS models, and interactive web maps to support conservation efforts and promote community outreach and education. Her research is tied to a larger collaborative effort with a local conservation program that works to protect the habitat of a critically endangered primate, the Cotton-top tamarin, in northwestern Colombia. The collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of her work is fundamental to ensuring the success of applying geospatial technologies and Earth science data, transferring integrative methods to conservationists and the local community, and enhancing conservation plans. Ultimately, Caren hopes to continue her work directing projects as a leader in Earth system science to foster societal benefit.
